MINUTES OF THE IFHFR MEETING OF
TUESDAY November 8,2011

DANIEL BERGER, SECRETARY

The meeting was held at The Ark Restaurant in Davie, Broward County

1) Opening remarks and discussion: At the regular monthly gathering of the IFHFR, there
being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order by President Fabio Fernandez at
approx. 7:30 PM on November 8, 2011.

Thanks to Bob Straile for stepping in for President Fernandez at last month’s meeting.
Happy Birthday to Jim Falkowski!
Quests?

2) Approval of Minutes: No minutes were presented for review

3) Treasure’s Report:
We have $9,644.52 in the bank. There are 28 members who are current with their
dues. There has been no cash inflow except for a $500.00 donation graciously provided
by the Rotary Club of Davie and $600.00 from the Rotary Club of South Miami.
NOTE: (The IFHFR Secretary will prepare proper thank-you-letters to the respective
donating institutions.)

4) Holiday party venue arrangements were discussed. Since Jerry Mills, who had offered

to host it, is currently ill, Bob Straile will be hosting the event this year. Please check your
email and RSVP.

5) Committee Reports:

A) Speakers Committee-Joe Witz: Dean Brown (Doug Brown’s son) almost had a
speaker for us today. Unfortunately there was a scheduling conflict.
January meeting location is TBD. Bob Stearns, fishing/wildlife photographer and
naturalist may be available- we require a large screen TV. Kitty McGowan will be
hosting the February meeting.

B) Events Committee- Bruce Kerestes: Discussed details of the planned private Hog
Hunt which will take place in the very near future.
With respect to the annual fishing trip for the at-risk-kids Don Lieberman suggested
continued contacts with such beneficiaries; and while we get thank you notes from
kids who are taken fishing, he would like more follow-up even though we do not keep
a roster. The members agreed that it would not be advisable to maintain personal
information on the kids, due to possible legal implications, when maintaining personal
information such as addresses of the at-risk-kids.

C)

Membership Committee- Shawn Meiman: We need younger members, so bring kids
to the hog hunts and meetings. Roy Gonas suggested passing out business cards at
meetings. R to R networking can help. Shawn will keep us posted.

D)

Website- Don Lieberman: He has not posted any pictures of the fishing trip at
Captiva Island, as it is a personal event of some members and not a club activity.
President Fernandez asked for the site to be further updated by Don as there continues
to be some items that seem stale in nature.

6) Unfinished Business: None pending.

7) New Business:
A) Financial situation and future IFHFR activities:
President Fernandez brought up for discussion the current financial situation of the
IFHFR. We find ourselves cash-rich but cash-flow-poor. i.e. We happen to have a
relatively large amount of funds in the bank at the present time but we do not have a
steady source of income to guarantee continuity of our club and/or fund our annual
charitable activities.
Over the last few months we have had a number of requests from third parties to fund
very worthwhile projects which, for a number of reasons, have had to be turned down.
To the extent that the turn down pertained to financing reasons, we considered: 1)
The fact that we operate without a specific budget that would allow for discretionary
expenses on the part of the officers, except for minor incidental expenses. 2) The fact
that the membership should participate on the financing decisions. 3) The reality that
at the present time we have no assured sources of income. Our cash balance could be

quickly depleted.
President Fernandez feels it is proper for the membership at large to decide where
we spend our money and opened the floor for discussion. Bob Straile pointed out,
that according to Kitty McGowan the Billfish Tournament is now a dead issue. The
Gold Coast Railroad museum has informed us that there will be no Polar Express this
Year. Bruce Kerestes, who had suggested that we get involved with The Children’s
Fishing Clinic at Tropical Park (Coral Gables Rotary had turned down their request
for funding for $3,000.00) informed that since we could not act before the November
5 deadline, we also declined the request. Roy Gonas put forth a motion “that we stay
with sponsoring disadvantaged children going to camp and fishing excursions”. He also
voiced a concern over the sources of our future incomes. The membership agreed with
the motion and Roy’s concerns.
President Fernandez also indicated that he prefers to see the club get involved in
projects where we are directly involved and have a personal interaction with the
participants/beneficiaries of the event. In this regard, Shawn Meiman stated that we
do not know enough about the camp. However, Jerry Mills is directly involved and has
previously vouched for them (Jerry s home recuperating from surgery at this time). He is
not involved with the SOS camp. Roy believes that Julio Avael and Pansy Graham can
help here. It was also pointed out that we can send 5 kids fishing for the cost of 1 kid
going to camp.
Consequently, a motion was passed that all funds that we raise go towards hunting
and fishing efforts (stick to what we are doing). We can research other options as they
arise and subsequently vote on those issues as needed. This motion was passed
unanimously. President Fernandez asked that in the future, members bring up such
issues prior to our meetings.

B) IFHFR patches: Fabio informed that he has some IFHFR badges for us that can be
sown on our hunting jackets. See Fabio if you want one.

C) Publicity: Don is concerned that we do not get enough publicity. Steve Waters from
the Sun Sentinel should be contacted. Gloria Burns and others did pick the story
about our last trip. Mike Sutter, a prospective Rotarian from South Miami has media
connections and can probably get a cameraman.

D) Family outing: Shawn was disappointed that we have had no family outings in a
while. Perhaps a Grits and Grants event would work. He will be helping Bruce with
these matters.

8) IFHFR Future Meeting Schedule: (Please mark your calendars)

December 13, 2011 …………. Holiday party Bob Straile’s house

January 10, 2012 …………… TBD – Dade County??? Joe Witz: Speaker??

February 21, 2012 (Date changed from 2/14/11 due to conflict with St Valentine’s
Day)... Broward. at Kitty McGowan’s home. (Coordinator of event’s speaker and food
Kitty McGowan and Tim McDermott.)

March 13, 2011 ……………….TBD – Dade County

April 10, 2011 …………………TBD – Broward County

Respectfully submitted,

Daniel Berger, IFHFR Secretary

Date: December 10, 2011
 Minutes of The IFFHR
October 11, 2011 Meeting

In the absence of our President Fabio Fernandez (who was on a well deserved vacation
Treasurer Bob Straile took the reins.

A big Thank You to Roselyn and Roy Gonas for opening their home and preparing a great variety of
smoked and other treats for the membership. Also thanks also to Yolanda Straile for all of her hard
work. We were glad to see guest attendees (Roy’s son and daughter-in-law Carla) as well.

Treasure’s report: A review of the finances from the last few years shows some non-distributed funds.
This should represent no problem, as we have planned on committing to several projects already (see
older minutes).

Member’s events: Our members are welcome to attend the Hog hunt (on a Thursday and Friday) this
year and/or the camp in Umatilla and/or the fishing trip to Captiva Island next month.

Happy Birthday to our October kids Bruce, Joe and Ralph! Our Best Wishes to you guys all the year
through!

Holiday party: The Christmas party will perhaps take place at Jerry Mills’ complex function room.

Fundraisers: Bob Straile reported that the possibility of a Thomas the Tank Engine fundraiser effort will
not occur, as we have been shut out. There is hope that we can perhaps help out at the Polar Express
event instead. He is following this lead.

Website Maintenance: The website issues of maintaining the website will be resolved with the help of
Don Lieberman and Daniel Scippione.

Meeting Speakers: Joe Witz reported that he has been unable to obtain speakers as of yet. Ralph
Lauretano may be able to get Doug Brown to speak (about nature).

Membership Eligibility: The official position of the club is that women are fully welcome to join. On
fishing trips we may need separate boats due to bathroom concerns.

Permanent Venue: Darryl Hickey will continue searching for November’s meeting venue (Note: now set
for The Ark Restaurant). Thanks to Ralph for always being a trooper in this respect!

In the future, we must assist him in preparations and clean up. Pot luck is always an option. Food
estimates are advised for 20 members and guests.

Meeting Entertainment: Lastly, but by no means least, we were treated to a wonderful violin recital by
Julia Jakkal, Rotary exchange student from Budapest (assisted by her host family brother Aiden). What
talent!

Next Meeting Venue: See You All Soon on 11/8/2011 at 6 pm (table will be set up on the upper deck by
6:30 pm) at The Ark, 6255 Sterling Road, Davie, FL 33314, (954) 584-3075.

International Fellowship of Fishing and Hunting Rotarians

Minutes of the September, 2011 Meeting

The meeting was held at the home of Ralph and Dale Lauretano, who again graciously allowed us to meet in a wonderful and warm environment.  Meeting commenced at 7:30 p.m.

2) Approval of Minutes: The minutes of last month’s meeting were approved.

3) Guests:  Honored guests: Dean Brown (son of Doug Brown) who works for Bass Pro Shops, Bob Korman Friend of Dave Kroner, who owns Carroll’s Jewelers, Daniel Scipione, Senior consultant for Camteq (Computer Asset Management, Inc.) guest of Bruce Kerestes.

4) Treasurer’s report: Bob Straile was not in attendance, but President Fabio Fernandez reported that we have $9,024.52 in the bank, as opposed to $10,229 at the time of the last meeting. Since then, $738.00 was spent on insurance, and expenses for the Miami Dade children’s fishing trip were also covered.

Jerry Mills presented us with a check for $500.00 from the “Coral Springs Rotary Charities Inc.”, for which we are most appreciative.

Bob Straile has been working on compiling the last two years of financial information. We seek to learn more about our recent incomes and expenditures.

In this regard, the club’s Broward county brethren usually arrange to send kids both to camp and to a fishing excursion, but were unable to do so this year, so the expenses have been lower. The IFFHR normally sponsors 20 children to camp at a cost of $180.00/child, totaling approximately $3,600.00.  The fishing trip costs $1,200.00 for the boat (just over $2,000.00 for all the costs of the trip).  President Fernandez estimates an annual expenditure of approximately $6,000.00. Past President Darryl Hickey gave a figure of $7,200.00 for the last year.

5) Folow up of activities: Don Lieberman stressed the importance of follow through with the children’s programs, but he will be unavailable to help next summer. Dave Rice may be appointed.

6) Camp trip visit by Children:  Jerry Mills spoke with SOS Children’s Village about a trip to Camp Umatilla. We have the opportunity to send 20 or so kids to the Elk’s Camp in

Umatilla, Florida, between now and the end of the year. The children gain privileges when they demonstrate good behavior, which may be rewarded by such a trip. The camp has a “ropes” course, pool, and is open to member’s kids as well.  This outing was approved by acclamation by the members.  Darryl will help Jerry in planning a week long trip next year. Jerry may approach the boys and girls club next year, both Dade and Broward, to send 20 kids.

7) At Risk Youth Fishing Trip: Roy Gonas reported on details and costs, as well as the press release (by Gloria Burns) of the fishing outing on the Reward Won, which was read aloud. Roy has come up with an organized list of how to organize future outings.  Our sources for underprivileged children are S. Florida Ministries, Boys and Girls Club, Non-Violence USA, Police Benevolent Association and Charlie Program.  President Fernandez recommends always extending invitations to our own clubs and their families.

8) Member’s Overnight Fishing Trip: Darryl Hickey reviewed the upcoming Captiva trip set for that weekend. Leave Friday and back on Monday.

9) Fundraisers:

·         South Miami rotary Club has elected to designate an outside company to sell beer at the Art Festival, so we are out of the running.

·         Thomas the Tank Engine: Bob Straile will report next time.

10) Meeting venue:  Darryl Hickey is still working on it. He is seeking spots at the Dade Broward line.  Either a per-room or per-plate charge is required so far. He will report next month.

11) Club logo: Jim DeLeo has the information on the artwork.  Daniel Scipione volunteered to assist with the technical details.

12) Committee Reports:

Events Committee: Bruce Kerestes gave very complete reports on the efforts being made to arrange events for members. He reported on possible deer and hog hunts, along Georgia/S. Carolina line. Bostic Plantation and another similar, nearby one run by the same company.  Dates, prices and logistics were discussed. For a hog hunt three outfitters all use the same location: Little lake Lodge, L @ R Outfitters and Hawg Wild Ranch.  Seminole Indian Village was also discussed.  For deer we are probably looking at a November 10-13. Cheaper than in December. Great job Bruce.

(Please note the subsequent email from Bruce on 9/29 that reported the selection of Hawg Wild Ranch a few miles east of Okeechobee, on 600 acres, November 11.  See the email for full details.)

Speakers Committee:  Joe Witz covered the work he has been doing in arranging for interesting speakers for our meetings. He is also working with Darryl Hickey on some of these events.

Possible Topics are: Turtle Release program being explored. Shawn may help get someone to discuss Python Eradication from the everglades. Our guest from Bass Pro Shops tried to have a speaker tonight but this could not be arranged. He will help obtain future speakers, though. Dean may have someone from Biscayne National Park regarding fishing regulations. Bob Stearns, a professional wildlife photographer may come.

Membership Committee: Shawn and Dave were not present, so no report was made.

13) Website: Don Lieberman has made many changes recently and it is still being updated.  Don will give access after changing his password, so that our guest (and hopefully future member) Daniel Scipione can host it for free, render assistance and act as a back-up. Details will be worked out.

14) Other Business: Oktoberfest, our next meeting at Roy Gonas’ home on October 11, 2011. Please RSVP, as much preparation is involved.

Pending items: Venues and organizing members need to be arranged/designated for our November 8th and December 13th meetings.

Happy Birthday to Dave and Dennis Easthope, who extend their regards and an invitation to stay with them up in Georgia.

15) New Member Guidelines: Status of women’s membership in our club.  We remain open in our membership to all interested parties.

16) Monthly meetings attendance notification:  Purchase of food for the meetings has led to problems in the pass due to lack of RSVP notification by members. Two pricing options- either RSVP or pay at the door, were discussed.  People always cancel or show up without prior RSVP for an accurate head count.  We will have to be strict so as not to penalize the club or the organizers. However, a number of more practical solutions were also offered such as ordering for a limited estimated number that would assure not much food goes to waste.

Meeting was adjourned for play time with Ralph’s (and guests’) many wonderful toys!! Thanks again Ralph!

    Date: August 4, 2011

Ref: Minutes of the IFHFR meeting of Tuesday, July 12, 2011

    1. Opening remarks and discussion: At the regular monthly gathering of the IFHFR, there being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order by President Fabio Fernandez at approx. 7:00 PM on July 12, 2011.

    • The meeting was held at Ralphie and Dale Lauretano’s home, 14741 Mustang Trail, Southwest Ranches, Broward County, who graciously allowed us to congregate in a most warm and welcoming locale. The President thanked Ralphie on behalf of the membership for opening up his home as venue for the June meeting. We all felt welcomed indeed.
    • Bob Straile received special mention as he was instrumental in arranging the event and brought the food from “Shorty’s” specially for the event. Thank you Bob “Caddy Bobby” for all the hard work in obtaining and setting up the food and drinks.
    • Special thanks were due to Darryl Hickey for his fine stewardship of the IFHFR during the last year.
    • New member Daniel Berger has volunteered as Secretary and has already produced a fine set of minutes for the June meeting to keep us all informed. Welcome and thank you Daniel.
    • It was especially significant to see long time member Ron Buschbom attend this evening meeting although he now lives in the West coast. He drove 2 hours to be with us tonight. And he is driving back after the meeting. Very glad to see you Ron.
    • Birthday wishes to Jim DeLeo and Bob Straile.

    2) Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the June 14, 2011 meeting had been previously distributed via email. The minutes were discussed and approved by acclamation by the membership.

    Committee Reports:

    3) Treasure’s Report: A) Bank Balance: Treasures Bob Straile reported the IFHFR account had a balance of $10,229.46 as of June 30th, 2011. B) Updated Check Book:Since our check book account is quite old, having been originally opened at Barnett Bank, the Treasurer will seek a replacement of the checkbook to reflect the current name of the bank, Bank of America. New board members will sign onto the account. C) Membership Dues: A roll call of the names of all of our members who are paid up for 2011-2012 was read.  Anyone who has not yet done so, please mail your check for $40.00 to the P.O.Box in Bob's email.  We are a dues-based organization and have never used any donations to pay our overhead. The latter fact is a point of integrity for us, as we have promoted this concept honestly in our fundraising. We need about 30 members to remain solvent, so do not delay! The Treasurer will report on the status of the dues’ collection at the September meeting. Dues continue to be $40.00. Bob will be sending a reminder email to the members in the next few weeks. D) Tax Exempt Forms: The Treasurer presented the Sales Tax Exemption Form for “Consumer’s Certificate of Exemption” issued by the State of Florida which allows the IFHFR to avoid paying sales tax on purchases made by the Fellowship. Please keep in mind to obtain and use the form when purchasing items for the Fellowship as we may not be able to reimburse for tax expenses incurred, and for which you seek reimbursement. Bob has copies of the form and they may be sent to you electronically via email. E) Announcing New Donation: The Coral Springs Rotary Club will be donating $500.00 to the IFHFR.

    Old Business:

    4) At Risk Youth Fishing Outings: - A) Roy Gonas reported on the progress being made on the Miami-Dade County fishing trip for at-risk-youths planned for July 30, 2011. A $300.00 deposit was made towards the July fishing trip. Bob is arranging for the juice, chips and water and he is submitting a letter to Publix Supermarkets for a donation of cash, groceries and/or paper products.  The trip is from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM but Rotary volunteers are asked to arrive no later than 7:30 AM for the required preparations and for the greeting of our early arriving guests. .The boat will be the Reward Won, and will leave out of the Bayside Marina (not the Miami Beach Marina). Fabio Fernandez will help with the food (sandwiches) purchase and pickup on the day of the event. Other volunteers are needed. Please contact Roy.

Roy has already selected a number of at risk children and continues to seek additional deserving children to attend the trip. No high school or Rotary exchange students are expected and it is open to our member's children or grandchildren, which is a great way of bringing them into the fold and creating good memories (contact Roy Gonas for reservations). The boat can hold 30 kids comfortably, but could take a maximum of 42. Right now we are at 15, plus 4 counselors.  Roy has been hard at work on this. Please mention this at your Rotary Club meetings!

Roy will be reporting on the details of the event at the September meeting.

    B) We also look forward to hearing the details of the Broward County At Risk Youth Fishing Trip during our September meeting. Dave Rice and Don Lieberman are leading that effort.

    5) Children’s Summer Camp: The status of the program designating children to attend the Camp at Umatilla, Fl. has not been finalized. Jerry Mills will look into this situation. He will evaluate the status of the SOS Children’s Village.

    6) Member’s Overnight Fishing Trip: Roy Gonas reported on the progress being made on a member’s fishing trip to Sanibel Island on Friday, September 16- meet for dinner, Saturday, September 17- 7:00 AM meet at dock to go fishing, Sunday 18th ditto. A second trip to Captiva Island can be arranged for those who cannot make it.

    7) D&O Insurance: As previously reported by Bob Straile, Treasurer, the current D&O policy will expire in mid August 2011. At a prior meeting Bob had provided copies of the policy, information on the related costs, and name of current broker involved, for review by the members. A close review of the policy and discussions with our broker indicated that all directors, officers, committee members and volunteers are covered by the policy. General members are not covered.

The membership discussed motion made by Roy Gonas, and approved it by acclamation, to allow the President, Fabio Fernandez, with the assistance of the Treasurer, Bob  Straile, to negotiate and purchase suitable D&O Insurance coverage in line with the current coverage and costs. Kitty McGowan volunteered to review our general liability insurance- the challenge is the water coverage aspect, as these policies offer no coverage when off-shore. The NRA insurance is an option. We expect to report on the status of the renewal during the September meeting.

    8) Fundraiser- Rot. Club of S Miami- possible bartending: At prior meetings the members had discussed the benefits and capability of serving in a, yet to be defined capacity, in the distribution/sale of beer during the Art Festival sponsored by the Rotary Club of South Miami. This event takes place in the last weekend of February 2012 and lasts for two days. During the June 2011 meeting the membership agreed by motion to put our hat in the ring and begin to negotiate some arrangement to man the beer booth or participate in some other capacity in the selling of beer at the mentioned festival. Fabio Fernandez will keep an eye for this opportunity with the South Miami Rotary and Brew Master Darryl Hickey will head the negotiations of our efforts with the beer companies if this project becomes a reality.

    9) Fundraiser- Thomas the Tank Engine: Bob Straile had previously reported on a Miami-Dade County event related to “Thomas the Tank Engine”. There is a possibility for IFHFR to get involved, as a fundraiser, in directing the parking of vehicles during this annual event. Other non-profit organizations seem to be already participating. The event lasts for 3 weekends and will require approximately 5 people for each shift. At the June meeting, after close evaluation of the benefits and the required manpower and based on motion by Darryl Hickey and seconded by Robert Trescott, Bob Straile was authorized to inquire and negotiate a preliminary agreement with the sponsoring museum that would allow for our participation.

Bob will be reporting on the status of this fundraiser during the September meeting.

    10) Meeting venue- President Fernandez reported that the search is still ongoing for a venue that is convenient for both Miami Dade and Broward members. Several ideas, including meeting at The Beverly Hills Cafe, were floated.  Darryl Hickey is looking into this issue. Stay tuned for events as they develop...

    New Business:

    11) Fishing Tournament Fundraiser:  Kitty McGowan reported that Marine Industries will not be sponsoring the 45th Annual Florida Billfish Tournament and there is no fishing tournament scheduled at the present time. Should there be opportunities for IFHFR involvement, she will let us know. Bad economic times portend a lowered chance of this being a viable revenue source for us.

    12) Club Logo- Jim DeLeo has the artwork. We require the art work to be able to incorporate into our stationary as well. Jim will bring the art work to the September meeting.

    13) Future of the IFHFR fellowship: President Fabio presented the members with information pointing to the nebulous future of the Fellowship unless we bring in new members and afford them some control.  Such changes will revitalize us and lighten the load that each of us is obligated to bear if we are to survive in our role as a both a service organization and a source of camaraderie. Low membership growth, lack of member interest, decreased quality or frequency of motivating events, competition from other sources, etc. Many of the same symptoms are affecting other service organizations, but the discontinuation of such icons as the annual Gold-digger’s Show, the decrease  of activity and membership of Rotary clubs, Elks Clubs, the bad economy, the age of our founding members, the relocation of many members outside our area,  etc. have hit home especially hard. The membership of the Fellowship has been rapidly decreasing, and some current members are at an advanced age or nearing retirement. At the current rate the Fellowship will likely disappear within 3 to 4 years. Given these realities, the membership debated and explored realistically controllable reasons for the decline of membership which may be summarized as follows: 1) Quality of speakers at monthly meetings, 2) Quality of planned events during monthly meetings, 3) Frequency and general appeal of member’s events outside the regular monthly meetings, 4) Lack of new member referrals, 5) Web site needs improvement and is not current, 6) Available PR material not adequate, 7) Jerry Mills mentioned lack of influence at the Rotary District level, 8) Ralph L. mentioned that we have done very little hunting and only some fishing- we must not lose focus of the nature of this club, etc.

Most importantly, however, the members agreed that it was worth making the effort to preserve the Fellowship. With that in mind the discussion turned to solutions. We realized that additional efforts, such as a better web site, better and more frequent member’s events, and a better structure to the meetings (advance location, dates and speakers) is required in order to induce younger members to join our ranks.

Hopefully by making these efforts we will be creating our replacements and assuring the continuation of our charitable efforts and camaraderie.

We, therefore, agreed to appoint 4 volunteer Chairpersons to head the critical and important efforts that must be made in order to assure the survival of the Fellowship. These 4 Chairperson positions and the membership of the committee will be on a volunteer basis to assure that the Chairperson and the members are fully committed to the effort and responsibility assigned to the committee. Committees will update the members on a monthly basis on their game plans and the results obtained so far. Each committee will prepare an outline of its strategic plan, with possible timelines, to serve as a quite to all the committee members of the work expected to be done; and provide basic information to the general membership of the efforts being made.

Elected Chairmen and Members to date:

Member’s Events Coordinator: Bruce Kerestes: Volunteered to be the Member’s Events Coordinator. Additional members needed. Committee will do activity planning to help members that may need assistance in putting together a member’s event. In particular Bruce is already planning a hunting trip. He will report on more details at the September meeting. There is also a fishing event being arranged by Roy Gonas; Some other Member Events ideas had been presented at prior meetings and these included: 1) Skeet shooting at Markham Park Range; 2) pistol shooting at NW 25th and 42 Avenue- in the Fall due to bugs and heat; 3) suggestions for a Hog Hunt have been made recently by Ralphie Lauretano. Bruce will be discussing membership on the committee and coordinating with the volunteer members to assure success of these efforts.

Meetings and Speakers Coordinating Committee:  Chairman to be determined: However, Joe Witz and Darryl Hickey have volunteered to be members of this committee. They both have some suggestions on speakers that they may be able to enlist to present at our meetings.  The Committee will be involved with recruiting speaker and other monthly meeting events coordination. Some ideas had already been presented for implementation during our prior monthly meetings and these included: 1) turtle hatching and release in Key Biscayne with prior visit to Jimbo’s-  Robert (Bullet) Trescott would like to help with these arrangements; 2) speakers from Bass Pro Shops; 3) speaker on Everglades pythons- suggestions made to discuss with Shawn Meiman for arrangement of this event; 4) pistol shooting at local indoor pistol range - see Darryl Hickey for help, 5)  determining a more central meeting venue to hold our meetings.

Membership Services and New Members:  Shawn Meiman in addition, Dave Rive volunteered to join this committee which will be creating innovative ways to recruit new members. Due to Shawn’s travel schedule he may not be able to make some meetings but expects to be represented by members of the committee who will be working together with him. Some ideas have been suggested for the Membership Committee to explore and include: 1) monthly meet-other-Rotarians evening card exchange types of event that are being help in Broward and Dade; 2) improved messages for potential members should be written for inclusion at IFHFR web site and possible mail distribution, 3) encourage non-Rotarians to participate, etc.

Web Site Maintenance Committee:  Don Lieberman: Upgrading and updating IFHFR web site.  Including more current articles, photos and PR material geared to a new membership. This committee needs additional members. Don is asking for assistance in generating the material he needs to maintain the web site updated. He may have more specific questions at the September meeting.

The IFHFR will be heavily reliant on the efforts of the newly elected committees Chairmen and Members. We wish them well and look forward to their concrete actions and updates on the results of their committees at the coming monthly meetings.

Members have a good PR opportunity by informing their clubs of the work being done by the

invite such Rotary members to bring their children or other young relatives to the event, room

Darryl Hickey and seconded by Daniel Berger the members agreed to put our hat into the ring
and begin to negotiate some arrangement to man the beer booth or participate in some other

capacity in the selling of beer at the mentioned festival. Fabio Fernandez will keep an eye for
this opportunity with the South Miami Rotary and Brew Master Darryl will head the negotiations
of our efforts with the beer companies if this project becomes a reality.

13) Fundraiser- Thomas the Tank Engine: Bob Straile reported on a Dade County event
related to “Thomas the Tank Engine”. There appears to be a possibility for IFHFR to get
involved, as a fundraiser, in directing the parking of vehicles during this annual event. Other
non-profit organizations seem to be already participating. The event lasts for 3 weekends
and will require approximately 5 people for each shift. After close evaluation of the benefits
and the required manpower and based on motion by Darryl Hickey and seconded by Robert
Trescott, Bob Straile was authorized to inquire and negotiate a preliminary agreement with the
sponsoring museum that would allow for our participation.

14) Speaker and Future Events: Members discussed possibilities for speakers and other
interesting and pertinent events. Robert Trescott and Roy Gonas make a number of
suggestions which will be followed up by the officers or designated coordinators. Among the

possibly in July (Coordinator-Robert Trescott); Pistol Shooting at local indoor pistol range
(alternative skeet shooting at Markham Park Range) to be done during the Fall (Coordinator-
Darryl Hickey); Speaker on Everglades pythons (Coordinator- Shawn Meiman); Speaker from
Bass Pro Shop (Coordinator to be determined).

15) Change of Officers: At the conclusion of the meeting outgoing President Darryl Hickey
handed over the gavel (more like a roll of paper towels) to Fabio Fernandez in passing the
responsibilities of President to the recently elected designee. All present gave their heartfelt

INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF HUNTING
AND FISHING ROTARIANS, INC.

MEMBERSHIP MEETING

March 8, 2011

The meeting of the Fellowship was called to order by President Darryl Hickey.

Many thanks were extended to our hosts Fabio Fernandez and his charming wife Pat for great hospitality, excellent food including some of Pat’s homemade touch, opening their home to provide a cordial environment with outstanding view and venue for good fellowship.  Attendance was good.

Long time member Jerry Mills was warmly welcomed back after the loss of his beloved Sibbie.

President Darryl led the Fellowship in covering several important matters.

Shawn Mieman reported on the forthcoming April houseboat trip out of Flamingo.  He stated recently being in Flamingo with a good catch of fish.

Jerry Mills advised on sources for obtaining under privileged children for the two fishing outings this coming summer.  Don Lieberman will chair the Broward outing and Roy Gonas will chair the Miami-Dade trip.  Don reported on inventory of shirts, trophies and other items for the children.  Dates for each trip and for sending children to camp (Elks Florida Camp rated #1 in USA) for one week will be determined.  The cost for each child at camp is $185.00.

Treasurer Bob Straile gave the Treasurer’s Report: $10, 654.46.  Estimated expenditures for the children in 2011 are $7,600.00.  The president noted the Big Bill Fishing Tournament work, though worthwhile, did not result in the Fellowship raising money as done in the past and asked the membership to consider fundraising opportunities in addition to again requesting donations from Rotary clubs.

If a member needs to advertise the Fellowship, keep in mind Lieberman has one banner for display and Straile has another.

There being no further business before the Fellowship, the meeting was adjourned.

MEETING OF THE

INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF HUNTING AND FISHING ROTARIANS

September 14, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Roy Gonas acting for president Darryl Hickey who was obliged to meet pending office responsibilities.

The meeting was conducted at the home of Tim McDermott and Kitty McGowan, and once again they provided the Fellowship with excellent cooking and a warm atmosphere.

Much appreciation and many thanks were extended to them.

Self introductions were preceded by introducing now new member Daniel Berger.

    Treasurer’s report: $7,310.52 on deposit.

Members whose dues have not yet been paid for 2010-2011 were reminded to pay.

The president will meet with Roy to advance the preparation of new bylaws with the intention they will be presented for proposed discussion and adoption at the next meeting.

A secretary will be appointed by the president.  The person called is urged to fill this important position for this fiscal year.  Bob Straile remains as treasurer.

Venues for future meetings were addressed.  Next month on October 12th the meeting will be held in a private room at the Coral Gables/South Miami Elks Club.  (This is a different Elks venue than the club on Sunset Drive where the Fellowship has met in the past.)  Expect prime rib, etc. and also either grouper or mahi mahi, etc. for $24 + tax, gratuity.  Draft beer prices start at $3; bottled beer at $3, mixed drinks, house brands start at $3.  [Ed. Note:  President--Final menu set for sit down service of prime rib.]  Members were urged to NOW mark their calendars.  Detailed menu to follow.

Future venues after October: Falkowski to advise on hosting November meeting.  President to decide for holiday party, and Lieberman has prospect in Pompano with band.  He will consult with the president.  January may be raw bar in south Broward.

Another item asked to be covered by the president was speakers.  The president has two lined up for future meetings.  The members are asked to seek out speakers and give names and contact information to the president.  With this in mind, Lieberman asked if members would like to have a program from a representative of the Special Olympics.  Meiman followed up with suggesting we arrange a fishing outing for SO children participants.  The suggestion received positive response.  Good programs attract attendance!

Gonas brought up the matter of a banner.  Lieberman said he may be able to get one without cost.  If not, up to $150.00 was approved for Gonas to visit maker of banners near his residence and order if within approved cost.  A banner is desired for display at the November fishing tournament.

David Kroner reported on insurance.  It was decided to look into training for the service of alcoholic beverages.  Kroner stated our work can fall within Rotary’s coverage if we have at least 3 Rotary clubs represented by at least 3 Rotarians--one from each of the clubs --at an event for which insurance is desired.

Sam Engle reported on last weekend’s fishing outing.  Eight attended, much fish and fellowship enjoyed.  Members were encouraged to go on this successful annual event terrifically arranged by Ron Buschbom.

ANNUAL BIG BILL FISHING TOURNAMENT:  Kitty reported as follows.

There will be 3 venues this year.  The kick-off party is Thursday, November 18th.

Several bars will need to be manned at the IGFA Building in Dania next to Bass Pro Shop.  The building is being donated for this event.  Upon motion duly made, the Fellowship approved providing workers to man the bars and related work.

Next, Kitty said the 3 venues for this year’s one day tournament on Saturday, November 20th will be in Palm Beach County, Broward County and Miami-Dade County.  There will be two venues on that Saturday late afternoon to entertain the participating fisherman—las Olas Marina in Broward and Miami Beach Marina (next to Monty’s) in Miami-Dade.  About 3 hours will be needed at each venue on that Saturday.  Kitty and Tim are to advise on further details for what work will be needed for the 2 venues.  Upon motion duly made, the Fellowship tentatively approved availability to work November 20th dependent upon required work details to yet be received from Tim and Kitty.  Tim will “QB” the Broward venues and another member will be needed to “QB” the Miami-Dade venue on November 20th.  DUE TO THE GREAT IMPORTANCE OF THIS EVENT AS A FELLOWSHIP FUNDRAISER, MEMBERS ARE URGED TO ATTEND THE OCTOBER MEETING TO FURTHER COORDINATE AND WORK AT THE TOURNAMENT.  Again, our income will be derived from selling bracelets for entry to venues and tips.  As before, Kitty is working on donated beverages.  At this time, the Ale House has agreed to donate product.  Again, mark your calendars for November 18 and 20.

With no further business before the Fellowship, and after added thanks and appreciation to Kitty and Tim, the meeting was adjourned.
